COURSE DESCRIPTION The class will explore evidence from multiple fields of science supporting the theory of biological evolution by natural selection. With a PowerPoint presentation, narrative and class discussion we will look at Darwin’s reasoning from animal and plant domestication, from the distribution of life on the planet, from the fossil record, and from comparative anatomy and embryology. Learn about evidence unknown to Darwin from genetics and DNA studies that offers compelling confirmation of his theory. Marvel at how evolution and environmental change over deep time explain the wondrous biodiversity of today’s planet. 

INSTRUCTOR BIO A graduate of Lewiston high School, Dr. Fortier received his BS in biology at Yale University in 1969, concentrating on zoology, paleontology and evolution. Following medical school and internship, he practiced psychiatry for 40 years. He has presented senior college courses entitled Earth, Evolution, and Extinction and Planet of the Humans.
